In the aftermath of the highly devastated tsunami that hit the region killing tens of thousands and left millions more homeless, the local hiphop scene organized a joint effort gig to raise fund in aid for the tsunami victims.

DualFlavaz : First Release Singles

The second installment of Bonzo, organised by Da'Fam, didn't fare much and live up to expectation. Neutrals might agree that they should learn bout what setbacks to expect when they face difficulties during their maiden gig.

The 2nd installment were littered with questionable events, battle calls laid out & blown up speakers (twice) which stop the gig abruptly sending the audience dissapointed and several performers their slots. Deja Vu for Trivalation and Bratz SinDikate?

On a higher note, the crowds were having fun, performers are having a good time though the crowds could be more participating, singles being released and the organisers did their very best to make it a smooth gig.

North East CDC Hiphop Fest 2005

Hiphop hits the heartland again! This time over at Pasir Ris. Setup ala picnic by the park, heartlanders were given a treat from local acts such as Trivalation, BAD, Public Eyes and many more. Lady Elle did a duet with Mayor Zainul and also a surprise appearance by Ahmad Loco from Defianto!

FloorSkillz 2005

After the great response in 2004, FloorSkillz 2 which was held over at Ngee Ann City are up again this time over at Plaza Singapura over this weekend. For two consecutive days, be mesmerise and bedazzle by the annual breakdancing fiesta organise by Verveparade, an online street perspective organization.

Da' Unit, who were in a hiatus mode since their last show on new year eve, will also be gracing the event together with an array of other fabulous local acts.

Hiphop For Hope

Ok, so the next BS event is on the 19th March at the YMCA Auditorium and expect some quality performances from headliners, Trivalation, Public Ey3z and more. Also performing will be Apiz iLm, Ninja Muscle, FLK, Alphabatical, Da Unit, D'Kruz, BreakForce Crew, Vanilla Shaque, Dry Pnutz, Psykelecticz, Dual Flavaz, Rapzo, and introducing Tha Theoriz, Oracle Phlow, Double Opposites, Velvet Groove and 2Ways.

Taufik has kindly donated 5 autographed CDs of his album, Blessings, which will be sold at $20 each. So here's your chance to get a copy of the most sought after cd and do your part for charity! WDC's latest production, The SinDicalist, will also be releasing another ep after the success of the collaborative split combat ep between Bratz SinDikate and Trivalation on that event. Nothing is confirm yet but rumours has it that the cd will be given out for free and only a limited number will be available.

The event will commence at 4.30pm and go right thru til 9pm. Cover charge of $8 (in its whole) will be donated to the Operation Restoration: Sri Lanka and everybody gets themselves a beverage kindly sponsored by F&N. Musicforgood.org and BS are working together on this one. So mark your calendars!

Bratz SinDikate Vs Trivalation EP

Due to overwhelming responce, only a limited number of copies are still available at Da Source, #05-127b Far East Plaza.

It has also been decided that all proceeds from the cd sold there will be donated to Da Source for the humanitarian efforts towards the aid of the tsunami victims and family funds. Do get a copy and play a part for the noble cause!

Platform 5 received a massive turnout yesterday with the attractions of Public Ey3s, Ninja Muscle and Bratz SinDikate included in the overloaded repertoire of local hiphop crews. By far the most succesful event from the whole platform series as quite a good number of people were turn away due to the club reaching capacity limits.

2-Ways, Phat Trex, Double Opposites, Velvet Groove and a couple of other crews were ear mark to be on Bonzo D'Flava 2 after their resounding and marvellous performance! My Best bet for 2005? Double Opposite and Phat Trex!

Trivalation received an award from the beats society team in recogniton for their massive performances and achivements in 2004. Great job guys!

Ting Ting! Round One. You heard the buzz and the rumours. Now it's time to reveal the moment of truth. Bratz SinDikate and Trivalation are releasing their joint effort EP entitled 'Bratz Sindikate vs Trivalation'. After their success in 2004 and months of preparation, the EP has finally landed.

There are altogether 6 tracks, 3 from each group. They have included well known hits like 'Swing It' and 'Mulalla (Eat My Louhan)' by popular demand. Great response has been received so far and they hope you will show your support by getting a copy of the EP which is sold at $6 each starting this Saturday, 3pm at PlatForm 5.

Bratz SinDikate and Trivalation personally don't have a need to receive feedbacks like the one back in 2002.

From the mediocre beginning in 2002 to the unforgettable underground parties in 2003, War Dawg Cartel finally mark it's spot in 2004 even when most of the Dawgs' main people were called up for their national liabilities! From Trivalation dominance in almost every competition ever held in this red dot to Bratz SinDikate surprise win in POP Is HOT competition! Even the young guns, Forlorn Kooks, make us proud when they grab the third spot during the Sprite's HipHop Battle in July!

But nothing beats the excitement and proudness of being a War Dawg when Trivalation did the inevitable by being the opening act for Black Eye Peas when they had their tour in sunny Singapore and of course, who will ever forget when they grace the National Day Parade at the National Stadium!

There were many new additions to the Cartel in this great year! The inductions of Lil' Zee and Emcee E`ein into Forlorn Kooks and of course, the crew which do not need any introduction, Da Unit! 3rd in 2003 Rap D' Lite, champion for the Youthopia competition and HipHop Club Rap Battle and many other honors under their belt! Bratz SinDikate too, not wanted to be outdone, rope in a singer, Muniro, into their SinDikate.

The extended family were also ballooned up when Tis St00pid Entertainment and WDC front-man, NAIOA, took in Platform 4 2nd runner up, G-Femininz, and the half Thai singer, Wazini, under his wing.

So what's install next for 2005? After a hectic 2004 with shows, gigs, guest appearances and charity works, expect nothing less than more excitement from the Dawgs in the new year. Perhaps a couple of EPs to be release or maybe a new production group to compliment the ever reliable Rare-Cutz and Tis St00pid Ent.....?

Firstly thousand apologies to all the peepz who came down to support Bratz SinDikate and Trivalation on that faithful day. Due to unforseen circumstances, the guys weren't peforming. Secondly, the Dawgs welcome it's newest crew, Da Unit, into joining the Cartel!

Aniway, the fest was a great event apart for several hiccups. The crowd were at their best party mood and the performers were indeed enjoying themself performing to a responsive crowd. Just hope 2005 will be a better year for the next festival.

Trivalation

The guys don't seem to stop. Trivalation is on a roll and a long one too.

This year, they were the opening act for Black Eyes Peas during their concert here, and was also involved in the grand National Day Parade.

Guess what? BS is putting together their showcase at the Esplanade, slated for 5th February. So mark your calendars aight. It's a whole hour of Trivalation.

Trivalation will start recording next year when one of the members, Jiggy, comes back from Taiwan in his service to the nation. Best wishes to him and the funky crew.

SGhiphop Fest 2004

The SGhiphop Fest, in short, is confirmed and the date is 11th December 2004.
The event will take place at Hong Lim Park, China Town and feature performances
from homegrown acts, Malaysian and Indonesian artistes.

There is a Graf Competition(open to all) and also a Streetdance Competition (open to under 17s). There will be no auditions nor battle for Rap performances. Those selected to appear will be informed in the next few days. Enquiries through email.

Confirmed performances include Triple Noize,Ahli Fiqir, Teh Tarik Crew, Phlowtron, Too Phat, KLG Sqwad, Soulid and many more. You will only hear news of the Festival here on BS.

Talentime Freestylin '04

A fantastic performance by BFC yesterday ,who eventually join in as a different name which is S-club 7-1, as they emerged 1st in the dance category of the Talentime Freestylin '04 held at Kampong Ubi C.C. While in the solo category , Serena grab the crowds attention with her sensational and powerful vocals and winning the top prize . Sass matazz became the ultimate winner for group singing after a wonderful showcase on their voice co-ordinations. The collaboration group of Dysfunk Lunacy and Flexx & Andrea get a distant 4th. Guest performance by Dharni n dance-group Hybrid blast off at the start and the end of the show!

The Youthopia Best of the Best Challenge came to an end with the band B`Quartet clinching the 1st prize. Second went to the dance/break group BFC and third was grabbed by Da'fam's Vanilla Shaque. On a whole, it was a big event graced by Youthopia with all the lightings,smoke machine and two big screens.

Imran did great for his set . The entertainment value was superb by having Munaji doing a drag and awed the crowd speechless . The in-line skating group, Hip Hop Inliner showed a horrendous performance with a hope of introducing the new concept to young Singaporeans. B.A.D and Da Unit performed well but I guess it was just weren't their day. Next time guys.

Congratulations to all winners. For those who didn't win, take this as a learning point to improve. Kudos to all by the way.

Today the Dawgs celebrated with W.D.C's very own Rendy, the man behind the rise of W.D.C. It's his 20th birthday and all of us went to his place to give him a surprise, and hell yeah was he surprised. He woke up from his sleep just to find us shouting at him. He was embarrased and quickly went back to his room and changed.

The party lasted till night as we had the cake-cutting session, lots of food, boozes and loud music with the guys from Revolute Nation, Dysfunk Lunacy, Da'Fam, Retrobution, Family Tri and the rest of War Dawg's extended family making it a memorable birthday for the big boss!

Last Sunday's Hip Hop Fest which was organised by Woodlands CDC was a success or was it?. It was said that it is going to be held every month. The stage was big and so was the tent but the down point was the lightings.Where are they? The crowd was good and it got even better along the way. It got pretty ugly in the middle of the gig when a couple of kids were trying to freestyle battle and scolding vulgarities at each other.

Take note guys!If you can't be responsible enough for your words then keep it to yourself rather than to marred the whole event!

The gig continued with the crowd getting noisier as they wave their hands up and dance when the performers did their acts. Trilogy ended the gig in the dark as there was no lights at all, but it was overall a memorable night to many of the youths.

HipHop Fest is happening on Sunday, the 15th of August at Woodlands Civic Centre. That's where the library is at. This is by the way not the kind of HipHop Festival that were organised annually, so don't be mistaken by it. The results for the finals of the Power 98's "Sprite Hip Hop Battle" are out! Beebsta,the man with the tech hop influence,got through to the finals.Good news for the Cartel as MC Phaz and MC E`ein also got through the finals.The collaboration of Dr Joe and Wabul are also through. The finals will be taking place at 'dbl o' or pronounce it as double o on July, 30th 2004 at 8.30pm. The commercial of the event will be aired starting Monday. Be sure to hear them on Power 98. Singapore Street Festival 2003 Champions, Trivalation, and Dharni and Jared from rap group, A.B.2, have one thing in common- a passion for rapping. P.D, Rendy, Lady Elle and Jiggy formed Trivalation in May 02. They were selected to be one of the opening acts at the Black-Eyed Pea's concert in May this year. A.B.2 was only a month old when it stormed its way into the finals of this year's Singapore Street Festival, impressing the judges with its unique rap style.

Part One : Starting Out

Even if you've been performing since '99, you might understand the sad fact that not everybody has the Talentime stardom or Zouk connections, and as a Rap Act, you tend to be underestimated. Because the scene hasn't seen much progress, the standards have been fluctuating. Here's a simple guide to see you through, so that if you could possibly make the necessary changes to the face of Singapore Hiphop, then you should jollywell do it.

1) Who's who in your crew?
Unless you're a solo act, please be sure the rest of your team does not consist of enthusiastic friends who just happen to idolize Too Phat and Eminem like you do. Rhyming is not contagious. If they cannot rap, don't recruit them. You're in a team, and have to work together to start an original rap group with original music. If you cannot rap, then don't do it at all. Stick to listening and supporting; you play a bigger role that way. You need to have a talent first, then ambition; not the other way around.

2) What's your crew's name?
Having stupid monikers for your group can do you injustice when you want to start performing, and people might just start making fun of you. Stick to names pleasant to the ears, easy to spell, and simple to remember, even if it's silly names like Dry Pnutz or simple names like Da Unit, 2Peez, Bonafide, and Dowap. It works! Even better, use your real names like SyaheeD, and MC Shah. Avoid militarian names (political parties, weapons, etc) or names in languages you do not speak. It does not go well most of the time. As for individual stage names, it reflects your stage personna, so by all means, choose well.

3. What kinda sound are you?
Alot of crews these days do without an Identity. Just like in Malay Rock, if you switched songs between 20 groups, the song will still sound the same, so do your bit to sound as different as possible from other rap groups. Reflect your influences and interests, for example, Defianto raps to Spanish rhythms, Bonafide does 'em love songs, pump-that-booty dance anthems and Deadleft was popular for that rock/electronic feel. Find your field. Don't aim to try everything, you are unlikely to carry it off. There are a infinite possibilities where you can infuse hiphop with other types of music, and within hiphop itself, you could find a niche that you could embody and glorify. Pay respects to those you idolize or get influenced by, do not imitate. Try to keep within grounds you are familiar with, venture only when you're on stable mode. Musical and lyrical progress (your Identity) should come naturally along the way. Forcing it makes you look immature, desperate and tacky. Strive to be original right from the start.

4. What do you talk about?
There is a difference between freestyling, battling, and good old rhymes for a rap song. Do not mix 'em up. Your Identity plays a part in this. If you're out to party, then love songs, party anthems, and people-pleaser tunes should come in handy. If you're out for a social cause, then fill up your verses with political and general affairs references. Try something different for a change like putting yourself in somebody's shoes like a murderer, or a foetus in a womb, or a schoolgirl, with proper storyline and plot; you got yourself your very own 'Stan'. Try these :

a) Potrait / Reflection : talking about yourself, roots, heritage, dreams, ambition. You may brag or reflect, up to you. Don't overdo the 'struggle' part too much, especially if you're 16. Talking about where you come from will definitely set you straight onto where you're going. Tupac loves this.

b) Storytelling : autobiographical, fictitious plots can set your mind on fire, and also on the listener's, especially if you can make their hairs stand. Rapping in character can up your game by a million fold, doubles you as an actor on stage. Try writing a song based on a book that you've read. Infact, start reading, mofos! Movies and tv specials can inspire you too.

c) Message Driven : be it political, or general, talking about a social cause, especially if you believe in it, will make you appear older than you are and get extra attention. Your love for animals, flora, fauna and wildlife might not help much but talking about abortion, sex, drugs, social diseases like crime and family crises will probably get you a standing ovation in due time. Be true to your passion, do not write about what you're not sure about. Research!

d) Party : make sure the song is one to dance and jig to. Don't exxagerate the drink and booze bit especially if you are underaged and your Muslim mother comes to support your gigs. Hah. Your chorus plays a huge part, and if your audience can memorize it easily, point your mics to em and get ready to party!

Please please please do not talk about your active encounters with drugs, sex, booze. Be subliminal to make it artistic, if not, it might only get you into trouble. Oh ya, and going to war against the government, Jihad, or coup-de-tat, these are a big no-nos. No matter how strongly you feel about these topics, it holds no place in the scene where the value of your crew is measured by how clear you rap, how presentable you look on stage, how well you speak, and most importantly, how enjoyable your music is. You wanna upstage the Army, do it only when you're powerful enough.

5. Practise does make perfect
Practise your songs even when you're not near performing. Get together at least once a week and give constructive criticisms to each other, be professional about it. Help each other out. Try hanging out and each other's homes. The tighter the group gets, the easier the work becomes. Pretend being on stage, with combs in hand, look at each other. Have alot of fun and still get things done.

This is a new layout for Bratz SinDikate webbie.Had to choose this cause felt better lah and easier for me to edit and also take it as a webbie for Bratz SinDikate and a some sort of blog for the guys individually.So nothing much in here now but will be posting pics from the concluded 0-Four soon.
